No major changes for our Sulumits Retsambew SEO contest. First few contestants are still going strong. New guy is on the bottom of the first page – Ardhindie. Google is showing 34000 results now. With this tempo we will probably pass million results before the end of the contest, but I doubt that will happened. I am thinking to add few banner positions and Adsense and try to monetize this site 
. Probably I would get back those few bucks invested in domain. I don’t work anymore so actively on this SEO contest, so I am worrying that soon someone will pass me. Last 3 days I worked less then half an hour daily, but in that half an hour I am trying to be efficient most I can.
We are still holding the number one at Google, but it is interesting to see what other engines says. On Yahoo we are at number 8. Watching Yahoo first few results you can notice irrelevancy for Sulumits Retsambew contest. Some of them are almost empty, and some of them are on old domains dedicated to something completely else…
Watching msn.com results we see even more inconsistency. Our site is not on any of the first 10 serps… First page is filled with old blogs that just mention Sulumits Retsambew on their pages. My Opera blog is on second page and it almost don’t have any connection to Sulumits Retsambew contest except that I mention my .org entry.
Chinese Baidu is similar, with only 2 pages of indexed results. Russian search engine Yandex gave us surprisingly good results, almost similar to that from Google. First page is highly relevant with major contestants on first three pages. We are at number 2 there. Good work Yandex… Cuil (these days called as new wonder) does not have single one result indexed. It looks his owners are ex Google employees with the reason. And for the end Ask.com. We are there on the first place and their results are incredibly similar to Google. However I tried few other terms and they are defiantly not the same. Ask.Com pulls back results that are more relevant then Yahoo and MSN results. Very strange that they are not little bit more popular.
Yesterday there was nothing worthy to mention on Google first page, some minor fluctuation of lower places, and we are still on the top. Today I can see that biz domain is back on 4th place, Firetown jumped on third position and 2sulumits is not among the first 100 results. I noticed that my blogspot entry is now on 81 place. I seriously think about entering to this contest with another domain. To se can I catch for at least little bit first two position. However I am very weak with my spare time and really don’t have an idea how to manage two sites. Today I will get backlinks from some obvious sources, for example free blogs that I made to support this entry. Also if I get time I will make article about onpage seo… Google is curently showing 28,700 resuls for our keywords Sulumits Retsambew.
Let’s say you have quality content on your site. And you know how to do on-page SEO. You need starting boost in links pointing to your site, so people can find you and talk about your content? Here are some of the things that I do to get backlinks for my site:
1. Forum signatures
I have bunch of messages on couple of forums across the internet. I regularly put links of site that I promote in signature and keep them there for at least 6 months. Google probably can recognize sig links and devaluate them, but they helps. Every link helps, even no follow links helps.
2. Forum discussions
After finishing a site, I find some appropriate niche forums and start thread about site, asking people to comments, give advices and their thoughts. People like to be smart ass-as and tend to reply if you want to hear them.
3. Do Follow Blog commenting
There is bunch of do follow blogs around with very high page ranks. They have bunch of posts with just a few comments and with also high page rank. Use Google to find few lists, pick the relevant and start commenting. When posting a comment, try to add some value don’t post just excellent post, Thank you and similar posts. They will not be approved. Try to enter into discussion. If you can’t, then better don’t post at all. (more…)
