• Site directories – Insert your site not to business category but on regional section of the site directories. Beside region try to hit the city if available.
• Local backlinks – Visit local city sites and forums. Try to get backlink from them. Somewhere you can simply comment certain page or answer something on forum, but somewhere contact the administrator for backlink. You can give him romantic dinner for two in exchange for backlink.
• Buy banners on local sites which are pointed to your sites. Don’t worries if they are nofollow, Google insist that paid backlinks have nofollow attribute.
• This one is most important. Get listed on Google Local Business on this link http://www.google.com/local/add/analyticsSplashPage. This will ultimately list you at local search on Google and it will even show a map where your restaurant is located in the city. Do note that for this step you need to have address on given place since confirmation is done by real mail.
• Restaurant review sites – Use this list to submit your restaurant on review. Those guys will come test your restaurant, they will give you a grade and in their review backlink to your site. Try to impress them, since good review will mean more real visitors directed by those sites.
• Social Bookmarking – When you start social bookmarking campaign then always mention your city name in descriptions and tags.

Beside this steps, other steps are same as for any other seo job, make buzz, submit your restaurant related articles to article directories, comment on local people blogs with your restaurant name and link, be active on restaurant and food oriented forums…

With the help of an article submission script, you can easily submit hundreds of articles to hundreds of directories in a few hours instead of days. And the end result is identical to manual submission, if you have picked a good script! Trying it first before you make the purchase make sure it is the type of script you need and has all features you looking for. Not every submission script is built the same way. Some would allow you to customize it, change the directories, save your bio info in the database and some will even fill in security code for you.

One down side of using such tool is that the directories are normally limited and there are foot prints of these. They will work ok for the time being, but as the technology get better, the search engine might be able to detect these foot prints and devalue these links from the directories. But nobody knows when that day will be, so you should be fine as long as you don’t spend days doing article submission and have other methods along with this one, then you will be ok. With all that said, article submission and marking has been around for a long time and it’s proven to work for many website owners, including the top marketers who are making over millions per year.

What happened? Now I have only 12k backlinks, so basicly I lost 5k backlinks. My visitors dropped from 130 UV daily to hardly 60 daily. Other example is Sunitas entry. She had also 17k backlinks, she was probably inactive too last month and she dropped to 14k backlinks. I don’t know how her site is going with the traffic but I am guessing its no better then this one. We are only lucky that competition slept too, otherwise we would lose our places for sure.

Also it looks we are lucky that we noticed few raising forces so definitely there are ways to protect our positions.

Work on your sites. Add content, build links. If you cant manage it all then maybe you have to much sites .

But on this site that was only true for frontpage. All other subpagescontained big mistakes. Since every subpage on the site is not targeting our keyword Sulumits Retsambew, it is wrong to have on all blog entries Sulumits Retsambew in the <h1></h1>tag, and then blog entry title in the <h2> tag.

It is strange to give same <h1> and title tags  to every page of our site. <h1> tag is very important and we need to target with it, specific subpage keywords. Most of the blogs today have their header or main logo wrapped in h1 tag. Then what happens? They add hundred of pages or posts (for example) and what you get? You get hundred of pages on your site that are targeting wrong keyword, hundred of pages that are pointing to your logo or name of a site as a main keyword. If search engine can think, they would defiantly say that you are a logo freak. Every blogpost has a title, title that must be relevant to the content of the same blogpost. <H1> must be related to the content of the given post. That is natural thing to do. If this post is about <h1> tags then why should title and h1 tags be “Sulumits Retsambew”?

After changing this, your blogposts will have much higher weight for given topic. With this single change you will rank far more higher in serps then usual. For those who are interested for the exactly the same <title> and <h1>, I am not sure what to say. I preffer to have them similar but not the exactly identical.

1. Setup your titles and after they are indexed don’t change them!
2. Make titles and descriptions for your other internal pages different. They all don’t aim same keyword.
3. Don’t spam with keywords in content
4. Don’t spam with keywords in meta tags
5. Don’t make link farms off your site… Limit your number of outgoing links to not more then 20…
6. Don’t sell links on your site. If you are selling links then only accept links that looks natural to your site.
7. Don’t buy links to your site. If you are buying then buy only natural links to period longer then 4 months…
8. Don’t exchange reciprocal links, you should make except for top sites from your niche.
9. Don’t enter to automatic link exchange programs.
10. Don’t do black hat stuff. Maybe you can, but from my point of view big G will catch you sooner or later. I prefer safe play
11. Build backlinks with keyword in anchor
12. Learn how to right use H1, H2, H3,… tags. Here is my previous post about it.
13. Use keyword in them.
14. Don’t copy other people content. You will just get penalized.

What you need to watch when doing onpage seo optimization? I usually watch on things bellow. They are not mentioned by the priority, I always do them all.

Keywords. You can’t aim to be on first position on Google if you don’t have any targeted keyword mentioned on your site. You need to have keywords in your meta tags, title, then h1, h2 tags… Don’t bother yourself with keyword density. Just read the text aloud and until it gets awkward you don’t have too much keywords.

Title. Put your keywords in title tag. Consider that closer the keywords to the beginning of the Title tag, the higher the relevancy. Don’t have more pages with same title; just one page is optimized for one keyword. Don’t put bunch of keywords randomly into Title. Everything must have sense.

Meta. Don’t ignore meta tags just because search engine tell you that they don’t use them anymore. They are important. Play by the rules. Every page of your site must have different and appropriate meta tags, same as title. It is best that each of your pages have unique meta description.

Heading tags. Smartly use your heading tags. Don’t put more then one h1 tag on your page. You can have more H2 and lower tags… Use the heading tags on this way for example…

Content. Insert you keywords in content text, insert the keyword in first paragraph, but don’t use too much keywords. Your site is for people not robots. Check first section of this blogpost under Keywords. Write quality and original content. Don’t steal from other. You will just get duplicated content penalty from Google.

Images. Put images in content to accompany your texts. Describe image with keywords by entering them in the alt.

Internal linking. Link internal pages in articles with anchor text. Link similar content. All your internal pages will get some rank, so it is useful to link from them to your other relevant page…

Friendly URL. Activate friendly URLs in your CMS (mod rewrite). Try to keep them simple without bunch of „/“delimiting everything.

Decide what you will use. Your site with www. or without www, and then do 301 redirection (with .htaccess) according to your choice.

External linking. Begin to use nofollow tag on external, but also on internal links. If you don’t know what is nofollow then find out here. Every paid link, sponsor link, every page you think that there is no need to be indexed (Privacy Policy), every untrusted link (comments) should be under rel=”nofollow” tag. Don’t link to spam sites. Link only to trusted content.

Use valid code. Many people think that this is not important. I like to think it is. At least that it brings you some small percent. If no other good, you will be at least sure that non valid code is stopping robots to index your site.

Put rss, sitemap and favicon into your sites. This will make your page more professional and more serious.

1. Forum signatures

I have bunch of messages on couple of forums across the internet. I regularly put links of site that I promote in signature and keep them there for at least 6 months. Google probably can recognize sig links and devaluate them, but they helps. Every link helps, even no follow links helps.

2. Forum discussions

After finishing a site, I find some appropriate niche forums and start thread about site, asking people to comments, give advices and their thoughts. People like to be smart ass-as and tend to reply if you want to hear them.

3. Do Follow Blog commenting

There is bunch of do follow blogs around with very high page ranks. They have bunch of posts with just a few comments and with also high page rank. Use Google to find few lists, pick the relevant and start commenting. When posting a comment, try to add some value don’t post just excellent post, Thank you and similar posts. They will not be approved. Try to enter into discussion. If you can’t, then better don’t post at all.

4. Social bookmarking

Try to add your site to some of them. If you have quality content then add Social Buttons to your site and people will do that for you. Try to learn how SB sites work and perform, add other interesting sites not just yours.

5. Link exchange

Try to exchange links with some of the top ranking sites in your niche. You’ll get surprised when you realize that many webmasters will give you link for free or gladly exchange links with you. Contact them over email and give your email personal touch. Don’t send generic mail across the internet. Those mails will get quickly trashed.
Do not overwhelm your site with link exchange; five sites from first two pages will be enough.

6. Free directories

This is excellent way to get free links. Find yourself some good list and start submitting. If directory is low quality for example they are without PR and accept every sites (bad ones and good ones) then skip it. There are thousands of good free quality directories. When you submit to directory, do know that their PR is just quality grade. Usually lower pages don’t have rank, but still submit to them.

7. Paid directories

I don’t practice this type of submissions. But generally if directory takes money just to cover their time spent, then it is good one. If directory take outragesly big amount of money then skip it. Google might look at that as on buying links.

8. Contests and free stuff

From time to time organize some contest or free stuff giveaway. People like free stuff and they will give you bunch of links if prizes are worth while.

9. Trackback links and Sources
When writing a content give trackback link to your resources. It is morally thing to do.
And from time to time you will get backlinks from them to.

10. Friend links
If site is yours then there is nothing wrong to ask your friend webmasters for links. If you don’t have friend webmasters then start to get ones. I am ready for any of my friends to give free links and so they are for me. 200 starting links for the start is not small thing.

11. International links
Take some time to get links from .de .se .ru .fr and other country domains links. Why?
This will mean that people talk about you worldwide and you are becoming authority site. Don’t find any international links, find your niche international links.

12. Article directories

This is great way to get backlinks. Write some promo article with around 300-500 words. Then put your link in it and submit it to free article directories. After a few submissions, write new article. Don’t send same article to all directories.

There are also few things you should know. Don’t do all this for one day. Take half an hour or hour daily and make a plan. Try to get 10 backlinks daily, or even more if you think it’s needed. Be consistent. If you decide to make 15 backlinks daily then stick with it. Don’t do 15 link for 7 days and then next 7 none. You can even after every 10 days add +N links for your strategy.

I am not giving resources sites directly; it would be too easy for you. Just search with Google and you will find anything you need to know. Compile your lists and dont gave them to public.

Anyway these are just my personal opinions. This tips maybe would not work for you, so take them with certain reserve.
