New projects

Since Sulumits Retsambew contest is over time has come for new projects. But again, some of them are just play since my time schedule don’t allow me anything bigger. First one is General Topics. However, problems started with the begining of this site. Google simply refuse to index it. Google bot is there but indexed pages are 0. Very strange. I even built few backlinks but site is nowhere. I simply don’t have a clue what is going on. Can it be .info domain. Second project is Online Ordering. It’s basically blog about Online Ordering systems for restaurants and guide for people who order food online. Currently site is under construction.

I am still thinking what to do with Sulumits Retsambew. To sell it, or not to sell it. To merge it with my personal site and redirect 301 there. To start further developing by making new seo topics and tutorials. Well I am really confused…

Why Alexa sucks

I am not sure why many webmasters look, think and watch on Alexa website rank. That thing is completely useless. Why. There are many reasons, but main thing is their ways of getting their data. They simply can’t know how much some site is visited, especially if that site is not among the site visited from people who use Alexa toolbar.

There are many examples. First one is this blog. Alexa Rank of this Sulumits Retsambew entry is constantly around 130 000 and this site don’t even have 100 UV daily. Is it possible that webmasters who mostly visit this blog are using Alexa toolbar more then other people. Sure. Some of my sites that are getting over 3k unique visitors daily are not even close to this number, acrosstheplanet.net with 300 UV daily is not even close to Alexa of 1 million. Some people say Alexa don’t count very well sites that are not in top 100k results? That is why second example.

Year ago Netbuilders forum just started with his work. Those who don’t know it’s a webmaster forum. It progressed very fast. Few months after start forum had maybe less then 1000 unique visitors daily, but it ranked near other big webmasters boards like v7n, DP, warrior forums and similar sites. Again there are bunch of sites that have over 5k visitors daily and that are not even in top 100 000 results of Alexa.

Now you can say Alexa is more accurate in the top 100 web sites. You don’t need Alexa to figure out top100 sites, just a healthy logic. As someone said: “Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me”. So please people stop using Alexa results and stop referring to them, they mean nothing.

SEO wallpapers

Heh I searched little bit across the net to find some SEO themed wallpapers, but I had no success. That is why I decided to prepare few Sulumits Retsambew powered SEO wallpapers. I did nothing special. Just went to SXC.hu and downloaded few images by Svilen, then I resize them to standard wallpaper background sizes. I made two different sizes for 4:3 resolutions and two different sizes for 16:9 wide resolutions.

Superiority of Wordpres is obvious, but maybe because so much people are using it, there is only small chance that someone will use other cms in the contest. This result can not tell us which CMS has best SEO since, SEO is weapon in the hand of webmaster not CMS.

I am wondering why no one used CMS for which their authors claim that are SEO killers? Content management systems like Drupal, MODx, sNews…

Bad luck or what

15 days ago, lightning stroked and my LAN went down, and naturally my internet connection. I was two days without internet but I repair it somehow. Then I decided to buy new ADSL internet connection to have backup.
First day I got it, electricity went down, and came late evening. I thought it is over now.
But not! Two days after – phone company decided that they need to change main cable through my part of the city and internet went down again, since my ADSL and LAN have source in the same quart just a two different phone lines, my backup was ruined. This time I was offline again for two days.
I again thought that problems are finally over, but then bad luck strikes again!
Yesterday my 20” Samsung BW stopped working. I was crazy all day and eagerly sent it today on warranty. Now I am again in café, waiting for my friend to come home to borrow his old 17” CRT.

I am wondering what is next. I doubt on my HDD it giving some strange sounds

Going now, I just wanted to share this with people who will probably understand this madness.

Sulumits Retsambew domains contest is over

Web Site Visualizations

Here is the nice tool – Site graph – that help you make visual graphs of your webpages.

For example here are the graphs of top three Sulumits Retsambew sites, Google, Yahoo and Net builders forum…

What all this dots and colors mean?
Here is the legend:
blue: for links (the A tag) (you can easy spot tag clouds, navigation and the blog pages)
red: for tables (TABLE, TR and TD tags) (this is bad, if you have to many red dots you should check your site structure since you are using tables, tables are not bad by their nature but they need to be used for tabelar data not the site design)
green: for the DIV tag
violet: for images (the IMG tag)
yellow: for forms (FORM, INPUT, TEXTAREA, SELECT and OPTION tags)
orange: for linebreaks and blockquotes (BR, P, and BLOCKQUOTE tags)
black: the HTML tag, the root node (this is your site start)
gray: all other tags (various other tags)

iframe worms: xtrarobotz.com, superbetfair.cn, lotmachinesguide.cn

I found that lot of people sites (joomla, wordpress, smf forum, static ones) get infected with these versions of iframe viruses too. Probably they are same variants of goooogleadsence.biz, cutlot.cn, google-ana1yticz.com, mixante.cn worms. You can read my problems with this worms in one of my previous posts, also there is bunch of useful comments there… My server antivirus detects them all as exploit.html.iframe-6. As it is known these viruses infect your pc, and take ftp password from your ftp programs like filezilla and then infect every index file on you server that you have right to write.
Steps to clean this pest are to download latest antivirus software and clean your pc. NOD32 2.7 with latest definitions or Avast free will clean this worms from your pc. Then change all cpanel and user accounts passwords. After that, bring your clean backup of public html files. If your site is too big for bringing backup files there is removal tool you can download it here: iframe worms removal tool.
Thanks to Dragos for this. He left it in my comment for previous thread about this pest.

Be careful by using this script. I destroyed all my .php and .html files with it on one of my sites. First download your site offline and try this on some standalone php mysql apache server (wamp, lamp, jsas). Also your antivirus will maybe detect this file as a virus since it contain line bellow with the instruction which virus it needs to remove.

iframe worm removal tool

You need to locate and change the following line in the script
$data = str_replace ( ‘’ , “” , $data);

according to the virus with whom you are infected, if you are infected with multiple variant, just change the line and run the script for every different worm occurence. You will find the iframe code in your infected index.html and other files usualy above tag. Then simply upload it to your server and run clean.php from your browser. Make backup first and test it offline or on copy of your site.

It would be great if someone experienced with php can use this script to make graphical interface and some security measures so you can not overwrite all of your site source files with zeros as I did, and then give the code back to community, since there are thousand of sites infected around…

As I said running this script is potentially dangerous. I am not responsible if you destroy your site with this script. It worked for me and I removed the worm with this removal tool from my big wordpress, smf and joomla sites… Make backup first and test if offline. Also do not forget to clean your pc and change ftp/cpanel passwords or this pest will comeback again. You can also overwrite your infected cms installations with the new versions of them, but you will need to clean template and personal files manually… Just save your configuration files and your customized template files…
